Salvimar Fluyd Zero – Flexibility and Resistance

How It Is Made

The suit is not neoprene, which would give the suit positive buoyancy but a 0.5mm thick polyurethane external cover, named “Dolphin Speed”. To give strength to the material, and also to increase durability, the internal part of the Zero is made of a Lycra lining, named “Skin Friend”. The material made of external Dolphin Speed and internal Skin Friend is called Skin U.T. (which stands for Ultra Tender), and is the innovative Salvimar material which gives extreme facility of movement of the limbs during swimming, or any other aquatic sport done in temperate waters.

Additional strength and comfort of the Zero are given by another innovation called “HT Weld System”, which consists in the use of Lycra bands (“Seamless”) glued along the lines of junction of the different sheets of polyurethane. This solution has important advantages: it strengthens the gluing between the different parts of material, especially the points where three or four sheets come together, creating weaker points, it insures the complete watertight effect, meaning best thermal insulation, and it avoids any sewing, which would reduce insulation and comfort.

The HT Weld System is completed by round buttons of Lycra positioned in the most critical areas of the suit, to give even higher durability.

Intelligent Solutions For Comfort and Durability

Salvimar has put a lot of thought and attention to detail in the Zero. As we’ve already mentioned, there is no neoprene that gives the wetsuit a neutral buoyancy, meaning any athlete and user will not need to add additional weight to have the right balancing in the water. Weight is usually positioned around the neck for indoor apnea competitions and training. For such reason the neck area of the Zero is made of a double layer of polyurethane. The inner layer adheres to the skin, the external one to the weight. The two layers will then be able to slide one on the other, avoiding any scrubbing effect on the skin of the neck, and so increasing comfort.

Another key element of the Zero, and important for all wetsuits with rear closure, is the zip. Salvimar has chosen one of the best producers worldwide – the YKK – and the zip chosen is the PK model. This is completely made of high resistance plastic material, meaning is can be pulled hard many times without braking, but also the plastic material will resist to weather and salt water as it will not oxidize. The zip area, which is surely critical as it represents a line of discontinuity of the polyurethane material and the Lycra, is extremely well reinforced, with multiple bands of Seamless material. Of course there is an additional layer of material under the zip to insure best possible insulation.
